‘Drum for Health’ is a collaborative international project to spotlight the benefits of drumming and movement for mental and physical health.
The core aim is to make accessible music to groups and communities together that wouldn’t otherwise have considered making music and being active with others. This will include all ages and abilities, different cultures and ethnicities, neurodivergent communities, older generations including the elderly and families receiving respite care.
The project is curated by Swan Samba, a Hampshire (UK) based drum and movement group established 2019. The classes and performances had been set up to enhance community and make accessible, fun music. ‘Drum for Health’ has been set up in response to the positive feedback and demand from community organisations, businesses and the local community, to bring hyper-accessible resources, workshops and performances to help and improve wellbeing.
‘Drum for Health’ will be bookmarked by a number of international events:
- World Make Music Day 1st Oct 2024
The band will run a sequence of workshops in community organisations, public spaces and alongside authorities (local council, libraries, etc). - World Mental Health Day 10th Oct 2024
Bands from across the UK and beyond will come together to learn a specifically created song, perform it and release an online collaboration music video. Additional live videos will also be released. - International Students Day 17th Nov 2024
Bands and artists involved will swap content and learning via live and pre-recorded videos and streaming. Swan Samba will also open its classes for free for anyone to attend.
The project will involve workshops, performances, flash mobs and free resources for bands, communities and organisations to get easily involved and at a level of commitment right for them.
‘Drum for Health’ is an opportunity to showcase drumming and movement to otherwise non-participating groups and communities and give individuals, groups, families and more an alternative means in which to support and enhance key life skills and mental and physical health.
The project will serve as a platform to promote work and using international calendar dates to signpost both the public and media to get involved. ‘Drum for Health’ is also a way for bands and leaders to connect and support one another online and in person to potentially lead to new music and events.

Protecting Our Ears with Flare Audio
At Swan Samba we love playing loud, high-energy music — but looking after our hearing is just as important as making great sound.
That’s why we’re proud to be affiliated with Flare Audio, the British innovators behind Earshade® earplugs. Their mission, Long Live Ears®, matches our commitment to keeping music safe and sustainable for everyone.

Why Earshade®?
- –31 dB sound reduction while keeping music clear
- Comfortable memory-foam tips that mould to your ears
- Robust metal stem design for long-lasting use
- CE certified hearing protection

We now use Earshade® in our classes, rehearsals and performances. They reduce the risk of hearing damage without muffling the detail of the music — meaning we can play at full energy and still protect our ears.
Whether you’re a beginner in a workshop or a performer on stage, hearing protection is built into our culture. With Flare Audio’s Earshade®, we can keep drumming louder, longer — and healthier.
